How is the word "proactive" used?

(M. Ram Mohan, Narsampet)

This is a word, which is being used quite often these days. Most of us are reactive rather than proactive. Whenever changes take place, we react to them. Proactive people are those who do things to bring about changes. They don't wait for changes to be brought about, they bring them about. They cause the change. They take action themselves, rather than wait for something to happen.

* We must adopt a much more proactive approach to solve the water crisis.

* Our politicians must learn to be proactive.

* The country needs to take proactive steps to stop terrorism.
