Guidepost to studying abroad

SARAH HIDDLESTON

An interactive platform of students sharing their experience, the website throws light on various aspects of studying in a foreign land.

Decisions about what and where to study are difficult enough in a place you are familiar with, but finding the right course or university in a completely different country is a challenge on a whole new level. For Indian students heading off into the unknown, there is a new website that could help them on their way.

The largest U.K. publisher of guides to education, Hotcourses, will launch www.uniguru.com , a portal that will post reviews from existing students at universities in the U.K., U.S. and Singapore, about their experience abroad.

The site will feature written posts, video diaries and photographs on all aspects of their life and studies including the quality of the course, advice on visas, the weather, city life, accommodation and the cost of living. Prospective students will be able to create their own profiles and interact with seniors to find out the realities of life abroad and not just those covered in prospectuses.

Uniguru.com is the first website that will enable peer group advice on studying abroad. It will be launched on September 11 in Chennai by Jeremy Hunt, British MP, and Mike Elms, both founders of Hotcourses.

The website will carry details of over 1,00,000 courses covering management, engineering, medicine and hospitality programmes offered at 808 institutions in the U.K., U.S., Singapore and Australia.
