Pre-Ph.D. results announced

Results of the pre-Ph.D. and M. Phil. examinations conducted by Andhra University have been announced. The examinations were not only conducted on time (from May 13 to 15) after the scholars enrolled for Ph.D. and M.Phil., but were also announced without delay. It was learnt that only a very few had failed to get through the examination in the College of Arts and Commerce.
Online exam
The administration has decided to conduct the second mid-term examination online and the departments are asked to prepare question banks by third week of this month. But the method of examination is yet to be informed to the teachers and students. The examination will be held during the first week of October.
Iraqi delegation visits AU
Another MoU is in offing. This time it is with an Iraqi institution. A three-member team from Basra which visited the campus last week showed interest in signing an MoU with AU to send their students here to do PG programmes in marine engineering and marine sciences. The delegation led by President of Arab Gulf Academy Mohammed Hassan Mosabih, interacted with faculties of marine engineering and meteorology and oceanography and university officials.

Vijaya Prakash, senior professors P.S.N. Raju and Prasad, Advisor, International Students Affairs M. Jagannadha Rao, and others had detailed discussions with the Iraqi delegation.
Librarian attends US conference
Librarian of Dr. V.S. Krishna Library and professor of Department of Library and Information Science C. Sasikala participated in the American Library Association’s annual conference held in Washington D.C. recently. Among the important speakers at the ALA were Robert F. Kennedy Jr. , Senator W. Bradley, Khaled Hosseini and others. ALA meet was a unique opportunity to know the current development in the field and to network with library and information professionals a
round the world. Prof. Sasikala who returned here recently, made a presentation at the University of Maryland and visited the Library of Congress at Washington D.C., said to be the world’s largest repository of knowledge. She participated in an interactive session at the Library and Information Centre of Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. This institute is setting up a campus in Visakhapatnam by 2009.
Medicine to hostel students
More than 3,000 students staying in the AU hostels have been administered doses of a Homoeo medicine Euphrasia 30, as a preventive measure against contacting conjunctivitis. Homoeo Medical Officer of the campus G.A.V. Rameshwar said the medicine should be taken in two doses, on the first and third day. In the case of severe reddish eyes coupled with a lot of pain and inflammation, one dose of Apis 200 should be taken.
Yoga certificate course
The AU Institute for Yoga and Consciousness is offering a three-month certificate course in Yoga from Sept. 6 and admissions will commence on Sept. 3, according to its Director K. Madhu.
This is the 60th certificate course the institute is offering and consists of practice classes in Asanas, Pranayama, Kriyas, Bandhas, Mudras, Yoganidra and meditation along with theory classes on Yoga fundamentals.
There is no age limit and the minimum educational qualification is SSC. Other details can be had at the Yoga Village on the Beach Road (telephones 2566640 and 2566625).
AU school student selected
T. Mukthidayi, a IX standard student of AU English Medium School, stood first in the district-level selections and would participate in the State-level yoga competitions to be held soon, according to Principal of the school G. Vijaya Lakshmi. Correspondent K. Thimma Reddy and others congratulated Mukthidayi.
Tips to students
Students who joined MBA programme at the Gayatri Vidya Parishad P.G. College, had a good orientation about the course they were going to pursue and the way they had to plan their future.
At the inaugural function of the course, Deputy General Manager (HRD) of NTPC K. Balakrishna Rao told the students to learn more so that they could earn more and that there was no substitute to hard work.
“Listen more and speak with restraint.
“Thank you” is a golden word to acknowledge the service received and which improves relationship”. The students must reorient themselves to their teachers and develop utmost respect to their institution, advised Mr. Rao.
Principal of the college P. Raja Ganapathi spoke about time management. Coordinator of the college D. Dakshina Murthy, HoD of Management Studies S. Rajani, director of PG courses U.M. Swamy and other faculty members and a few senior students also spoke.
Welcome to Sravanam
Students of Samata Degree and PG College welcomed the auspicious Sravana maasam in the traditional way.
Verandahs and open places in the college were awash with colour as students actively participated in the Rangoli competition held as part of the “Traditional Day” conducted by the faculty to mark the beginning of Sravanam.
Faculty members S. Madhavi Latha, G. Hema, N. Lalita and Principal S. Vijaya Ravindra participated.
NSS District PO
A selection grade lecturer of Rajah R.S.R.K. Ranga Rao College at Bobbili, K. Lakshun Naidu, has been appointed for the second time as NSS District Programme Officer for Vizianagaram district.
He has conducted many NSS programmes and received awards like Best State Resource Person in the College Talks AIDS Programme and Best Teacher Award.
NSS distributes books
The NSS unit of Dr. V.S. Krishna Govt. Junior College distributed notebooks, pens, pencils and slates to the pupils of GMVC School in Rajakaveedhi.
The unit is doing the same since 2002 after adopting the school. Principal G. Narayanaswami Naidu, NSS Programme Officer T. Madhava Rao, HM of the school B. Appala Naidu and others were present.
