DWINDLING GREEN COVER: The conscious choices we make now will decide the future of our eco system.
Mahaveer Institute of Science and Technology: Gone are the days when one used to roll down the side window to feel the enchanting breeze touching one’s face, now one can dare to do that just to find the chaotic traffic collaborated with an admixture of harmful gases, leading us to live a secluded life.
Once I asked my heart... why is that I feel lonely? Why is that I miss that breeze? It replied ‘just like the desolate nest recalls the days when it experienced birds singing happily for the arrival of their hatchlings, you are trying to think about the beautiful memories of your life which will never come back’.
As our population is drastically increasing, dense trees that used to provide shade are being chopped indiscriminately.
In the name of urbanisation we seem to encroach upon almost everything that we see in our vicinity. Aren’t we narrowing our mind by widening our infrastructure? Or we are trying to ignore the fact that every thing is interconnected with other?
What ever we do to our environment reflects back to us – We get what we give. We as students have more responsibility on our shoulders.
The common man looks at the educated to show the way. All the anger we show on our buses while protesting or the incessant complaints we make about the lack of facilities can be positively converted into planting trees. We have only one planet.
The conscious choices we make now will decide its future. Let us pledge that every student plants at least one sapling in his college or home or in his area and takes care of it till the completion of the course.
If individually you are not motivated, talk to your friends and as a group plant a sapling on the college campus or in the open area nearby the college on the group’s behalf.
Celebrate a friend’s birthday by planting a sapling and name it after him.
Then see the difference we can make to our lives and our little brothers and sisters. Remember, if we care about the Planet she’ll care about us.
