Design yatra

A good learning experience for WLCI students

It was a platform to interact, network, share ideas and exchange thoughts on designing and students of advertising and graphic design course, Wigan and Leigh College India, Bangalore, made full use of it.

Fourteen students participated in the “Kyoorius Design Yatra” held from September 6 to 8 in Goa and received industry exposure and got the opportunity to interact with well-known professionals from the world of design, said Varsha Shelar, head of the department.

“Several professionals, both from abroad and across the country, participate in the event every year. Seminars and workshops are held and these are open for design students from across the country,” she said.

The students had to design panels, which were later displayed at the Yatra. This was done with an aim to provide the students the freedom to design the panel in a style that they felt represented their work, belief and passion.

The students whose work was displayed included Nalisha Chouraria, Ravi Shankar, Samia Siddiqui, Sumeena Iqbal, Himanshu Prasad, Amit Ganguly, Aditya Prahlad, Diana Saldhana, Febin Roy, Lal Rindika Lalte, Pranita Hegde and Chiramal Davis George.

Ameya, a student of WLCI Mumbai, won the second prize in mascot design competition.

“The event was a great learning experience. The best moment was when industry veterans, including Stefan Sagmeister, appreciated the creativity of our students,” Ms. Shelar said.

The event helped students get an insight into how different design businesses function and learn how to use different kinds of media, a skill that can be utilised in future in their work.
