Application guidelines for U.S. universities
If you are planning to start a graduate or postgraduate course in the United States next September, your application process should be well under way by now. And, if you have already registered for your SATs or GREs and asked your teachers for recommendation letters, you are in good shape and have nothing to worry about — at least according to application guidelines of the United States Education Fou
ndation in India (USEFI).
Applying to the U.S. has become so competitive that students find themselves starting the process 18 months before they actually leave the country. The process begins with identifying the universities you plan to apply to — this is probably the hardest and most important part of the process.
The USEFI suggests that you should ideally have your application form, along with all the supporting materials, ready by the end of October (or early November at the very latest). This includes the recommendation letters from your teachers. Getting them can be a tricky task.
The USEFI provides a number of educational advising services. Visit www.fulbright-india.org for details.
