Race for the top job hots up in KU


Committee constituted to identify probable V-C to meet today


The search committee constituted to identity the probable candidate for the post of Kakatiya University Vice-Chancellor is expected to meet on October 29.

The committee consisted of AP State Council for Higher Education chairman Prof. K. C. Reddy as Government nominee, the Vice-Chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University Prof. Marutha Muthu as UGC nominee and KU executive council nominee is Prof. M. Ananda Krishnan who is chairman of Madras Institute of Development Studies, Chennai.

Lobbying for post

Prof. V. Gopal Reddy’s term as Vice-Chancellor Kakatiya University has expired on October 10. Presently, several candidates were trying their best lobbying for the post. They were coming forward playing the caste cards while the BCs and SCs were strongly arguing that the post should go to their candidate this time. The STs were making efforts contending that during the past three decades not a single candidate from ST category had got the position of Vice-Chancellor.

Contenders

Among the BCs – Prof. N. Satyanarayana of Chemistry department and Prof. Subash were strongly contended for the post of Vice-Chancellor while in SC category, Prof. J. Yellaiah of English Department and Prof. Sammaiah of Botony department was trying their best for the coveted position. In the ST category – Prof. A. Sitaram Naik of Botany and B. R. Shyamala of Economics department are in the fray.

Many of the contenders were banking on playing the community card, their teaching and also their administrative experience.
