Studying abroad gets more attractive

AIESEC, an international student organisation, helps students take up internship programmes on foreign shores.

Globe trotting for internships to get an international exposure and experience different cultures is the movement among student community. Interning with a reputed company would expose students and also give them a chance to fine tune their skill set.

AIESEC, an international student organization helps students find internships abroad and is conducting a seminar towards this aim November 11.

The temptation of landing at foreign shores, for students is rather high. Though a majority of them seek education on the western sea board, an internship abroad will help them make their resume attractive.

The International Internship Program offered by AIESEC has over 3500 companies in a 100 countries catering internships to students. Period of the internship can be anywhere from two months to 18 months. AIESEC has classified these internships in four categories- Management, Technical, Educational and Development.

Subjects

The Management category will have internships related to administration, finance, accounting, marketing, project management and Human Resources. These internships will give a student experience in areas related to management and also one learns the tricks and trade of the world of business.

Applicants with an MBA or a BBA with relevant work experience and command over at least one foreign language would definitely help. Most of the Management internships last for 18 months and stipends depending on the company. Students opting for Development Internship will give them an opportunity to work with an issue that is socially relevant to the society and culture. Students are taken on projects for two to three months and will work with other international interns as a team. Details of work done during the stay are collected as data and are evaluated so that the project would be carried on even after the interns leave the country.

Focus on IT

While Development and Management internships require students to have some skill sets, the Technical Internship mainly focuses on IT. The areas include web development and management, software development and programming, system analysis and design, network management and database management. Students should exhibit proficiency in various programming languages like Java, PHP, SAP, HTML and MYSQL.

The Educational Internship provides an interned to work in areas related to teaching languages, curriculum development, character development, cultural interaction and perspective promotion in academic fields. During the course of the internship, candidates will be able to hone their presentation skills, organisation skills and experience a different educational system.

Interns will also have a chance to do a market research and find out opportunities in the education sector. Adding value to one’s experience, one will interact with people from different cultures and age groups.
