RRB changes track to online exam mode

G. KRISHNAKUMAR

The Internet-based multi-centre online examination conducted by the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB), Thiruvananthapuram, seems to have clicked.

Nearly 4,000 candidates appeared for the examination for appointment of assistant loco pilots at five centres in the State capital on November 3 and 4. The digital route is now clear for the RRB. It has earned applause for being the first among 20 RRBs in the country to adopt the system.

Elated by the enthusiastic response to its initiative, M.A. Inbarasu, Chairman of RRB, Thiruvananthapuram, said in an interview to The Hindu EducationPlus that the results were published a day after the examination and uploaded on the web site www.rrbthiruvananthapuram.net

“The salient feature of this technology is that the examination can be administered/monitored in one place, even though the examination centres are in different locations. One hundred and fifty to 200 terminals were set up at each centre and barcode readers and laptops were used for an easy and quick check-in attendance facility for the candidates. This helped in reducing the waiting time for the candidates who came from the remotest parts of the country,” he said. Highlighting the advantages of the online examination, Mr. Inbarasu said the entire process was completed so fast that the candidates need not wait for long to know their results. The system was user-friendly, as the candidates needed to use the mouse for choosing the answers and keyboard for entering their roll number.

“The conduct of the examination in different locations will be almost at the same time and results can be processed immediately and published in the shortest possible time. The advent of this technology will also help in conducting simultaneous examinations for various posts from one location and the results processed could be forwarded to the RRBs for immediate publication,” he said.
