Meet on innovation and entrepreneurship



Well done : Students of PSG College of Arts and Science receiving the over all trophy at the Inter-Collegiate Cyber Meet – “Tekriti ’08" organised by SNMV College of Arts and Science in Coimbatore.

The Department of Management, VLB Janakiammal College of Arts and Science recently organised a regional-level management meet on “Innovation and entrepreneurship.” The Registrar of Bharathiar University, P.Thirumalvalavan, chief guest, said how students in management were expected to be global leaders with an inclination towards entrepreneurship. The programme included management aspects such as new product launch, process innovation, project concept and entrep reneurial talent.

The Park Group of Institutions conducted a seminar on Research Project Development. The objective of the seminar was to provide complete information on funding agencies and their schemes to all faculty members. The programme was attended by 500 teachers. P.V.Ravi, Chairman of Park Group of Institutions said that research projects helped faculty members in updating their knowledge and in gaining knowledge too. P.Kanniappan former Vice Chancellor of Alagappa University, chie f guest, conducted two sessions during which, he spoke about the various departments of the Government and their funding schemes.

Fantabulous ’08, a mega cultural event organised by the Nehru Arts and Science College was conducted recently. K.A.Kuriachan, District Governor, Rotrary International, was the chief guest.

Karpagam Arts and Science College organised an inter-collegiate seminar on “Innovations in Biotechnology.” H.Devaraj, Director, University of Madras, Guindy campus, was the chief guest. He emphasised the need for an understanding of basic sciences.

A thorough understanding of stem cell lineages was important, he added. Sixty-five papers were presented at the seminar. More than 100 students from colleges in and around Tamil Nadu attended. Out of the papers presented the first three papers selected as the best were from Karpagam College of Arts and Science.

The Department of Electronics and Media Technology, Karunya University, conducted a workshop on “Audio, Video and Graphics.” The opportunities and challenges involved in working for the media were explained.

The workshop gave an opportunity to the students to get hands-on experience with the video camera and other equipment. As part of this workshop, photo contest, painting and poster design contests were also held. A live demonstration of a digital audio workstation was also held. An exhibition of antique equipment related to video, audio and graphics.

A free eye camp was organised by the NSS Unit of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. A team of ophthalmologists from The Eye Foundation hospital, R.S.Puram, conducted free vision checking camp within the TNAU campus.

More than 360 people attended the camp. Those with problems were given treatment and required corrective measures.

The P.G.Department of Sankara College of Science and Commerce will organise an inter-collegiate technical festival “Renaissance ’08 – Regeneration of Software Technology” recently. Colleges affiliated to the Bharathiar University, participated in the festival.

A perfect balance between the task, the team and the individual can ensure the success of a business, said Shailesh Rao, Managing Director of Google India. He was addressing the students of Amrita School of Business, Pragati ’08. To sustain progress, it took not just capability or skill alone, but good leadership and commitment to innovation. Innovation was a commitment to make things better than what they were, Mr.Rao said. He gave away the championship trophy to th e Rajagiri Institute of Management, Kochi, which won with a lead of 450 points. Games on management aspects such as finance, marketing, human resources and operations. Rehana Raj from the winners’ team won the Best Manager award while Indian Business Academy bagged the second place and SDM-IMD Mysore came third. Vice Chancellor, P.Venkat Rangan, and Dean, Amrita School of Business attended.
