I am pursuing B.Sc. In your columns you have suggested that students of Commerce, Management and even Engineering study add-on programmes and get the benefits. In a similar fashion are there any courses for Science students?

Pursuing add-on courses and programmes always benefits students. As a Science student you can pursue the following programmes that are being conducted by the St. Joseph’s Post- Graduate and Research Centre ( www.sjc.ac.in): Diploma in Gene Cloning; Certificate in Bio Informatics.
The course curriculum has been designed by experts and the infrastructure has been provided under grants from the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The Diploma in Gene Cloning is a full academic year programme for 120 hours. Classes are conducted during the weekends and on holidays. The course has both practical and theory components, which will help the students to learn the nuances in a better way. Some of the topics covered in the curriculum are: Control of Gene Expression, Cloning Vectors, Gene Cloning Strategies, DNA Amplification, Molecular Biology, Genomics, and Application of DNA Technology.
Certificate in Bio Informatics covers Drug Designing, Genomics (Proteomics) and Computational Biology (Database Bio Computing, Bio Information Software Sequence Alignment, Molecular Structure Visualisation, and Structure Prediction). The programme is conducted over 120 hours.
Both the programmes are open for graduates of Bio-Science, Medicine, Biotechnology and Engineering, and Pharmacy. The students also undertake projects and are guided by the faculty. The students are encouraged to publish papers in various journals. Many of them have got openings in institutes of higher learning worldwide. The centre also produces the popular national journal of plant sciences, Biovistas. Understand basic concepts and designs of ERP systems.
Recognise functional modules within an ERP system and their purpose.
Organise the sequence of events in an ERP implementation.
Develop teams for an effective ERP implementation.
Utilise effective transition strategies from legacy systems to new systems.
Determine the best techniques and methods for performing data conversions.
Establish prototyping and testing for reliable ERP installations.
Identify the proper classification of a company’s use of an ERP system for process improvement.
Management of the process of change during and after an ERP implementation.
Properly manage and utilise expensive ERP consultants.
Organise and conduct project planning sessions for long-range planning.
Perform ROI (Return on Investment) calculations for ERP justification strategies.
Understand the critical integration relationships between functional modules.
Recognise how Internet technology is affecting ERP systems and important business process flows.
