The 42nd Sports Day of Saraswathi Narayanan College was held recently.

S. Kumaravel, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), who was the chief guest, urged the students to chart a plan for the year and work accordingly, besides maintaining a sound body and a sound mind so as to face challenges.

The undergraduate History students won the overall championship.

The 42nd College Day was celebrated recently. R. Murali, Syndicate member of Madurai Kamaraj University, who was the chief guest, explained the changing scenario of higher education in India and urged the students to develop communications skills, learn time management and stress management and nurture decision making skills to suit the needs of the corporate sector. Prizes were distributed to students for various achievements.

The Student Nurses Association of CSI Jeyaraj Annapackiam College of Nursing, Pasumalai, celebrated the World Health Day recently.

The theme of the year is ‘Protecting Health from Climate Change.’ The chief guest, Ezhil, president of Tamil Nadu Science Forum, explained the problems of climate change and its impact on health and life of the people.

A quiz was held on ‘world health.’ Abdul Bhai, secretary of Antar Bharathi, a non-governmental organisation working for the youth, gave away the prizes.

The 40th College and Sports Day of M.S.S. Wakf Board College was celebrated recently.

In his address, I. Singaram, Registrar of Madurai Kamaraj University, commended the role of NCC and NSS for their selfless service to society and urged the students to develop self-confidence, self-control, and knowledge about the self.

The Chairman of Tamil Nadu Wakf Board, S. Hyder Ali, stressed the importance of value education and Hasan Sahib, secretary and correspondent, exhorted students to gain proficiency in many languages.

When A. Basheer Ahamed, Principal in-charge, announced that Rajesh Kumar, a physically challenged student, had been selected to represent the country in an international sports event for the handicapped to be held in the USA, the members of the governing body, faculty and the public donated Rs.31,000 towards his expenses.

Vickram College of Engineering, Enathi, celebrated its seventh Sports and College Day recently.

The chief guest, K. Nandabalan, Police Commissioner, in his address, advised the students to repose absolute faith in God and urged them to take care of the elders.

He also insisted that the students should be proactive as it was essential to meet the challenges of modern world. He gave away certificates and prizes to students for their outstanding performance in academic and sports activities.

The students also showcased their skills by performing dance and music programmes.

The first convocation of the Institute of Gandhian Studies and Research run by Gandhi Museum was held on Friday. Diploma and PG diploma certificates in yoga were distributed to successful candidates on the occasion.

In his convocation address, the chairman of Gandhi Museum, N. Mahalingam, explained how Mahatma Gandhi was an exemplar in many ways and world leaders like Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King followed in his footsteps.

He also pointed out how the Mahatma experimented promotion of education, food and housing facilities for all.

R. Rengasamy, Principal, presided over the function. The Gandhi Museum secretary, K. Lakshmikanthan Bharathi, delivered the introductory address. S. Jayaraj, Research officer, delivered a vote of thanks.
