OU alumni on a mission


Draw up action plans to strengthen the efforts of alma mater in imparting quality education


Its pay back time for Osmanians who scaled heights of excellence in diverse fields in the US. Under the banner of Osmania University Alumni Association of North America (OUAANA) several alumni have come together have drawn up action plans to strengthen the efforts of the alma mater in imparting quality education in the region.

The OUAANA has framed a blueprint to raise one million dollars and initiate several pro-student and pro faculty initiatives as also infrastructure projects and programmes to help Osmanians. The Association which met recently in the US plans to have Visiting Professorships, institute scholarships for students, college support programmes etc., and succeeded in mobilizing $ 250,000 within a short period.

A few projects of the OUAANA include Visiting Professorships, which are aimed at attracting renowned researchers and creative artists to the university in various fields such as pharmacy, information technology, various fields of engineering and science, music, and arts. The cost is $60,000 per professorship, which will be named after the donor.

Another programme is the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Scholarships. These scholarships will be awarded to needy but meritorious students seeking advanced degrees. The amount would be Rs. 10,000 per year. Cost is $5,000 per scholarship, to be named after the donor. The distinguished Speaker Programme will facilitate well-known scientists, scholars, authors, and artists from all over the world for three to five day visits to the campus. The students will get a chance to interact with the experts. The cost is $25,000.

Donations

The association is also looking for donations for specific purposes, such as laboratory equipment, scholarships, library improvements, or infrastructure.

The cost is $5,000. Minimum donation is $500 and the names of the donors will be inscribed by categories on a plaque to be prominently displayed in the college.

Donors can also name a suitable project subject to the approval of the university, and provide the monetary resources to realize the project.

The amount is a minimum of $2,500.

As a kick off to this mission, Osmania University and OUAANA celebrated Osmania Alumni Day recently in Hyderabad, and honoured their own meritorious alumni who have reached the pinnacle in their chosen fields.

Mr. Harinath Medi, the President, OUAANA said “The Alumni are proud of these honourees.” Mr. Medi is an American national having lived over 30 years in Houston, Texas. He is a graduate of Osmania University with a B.S. in civil engineering and held many positions of leadership, among which were the president of the Osmania University Students Union and president of the Osmania Engineering College Students Union. Mr. Medi started his own company, Medi Realty, having become a licensed broker in Texas. He is a founding member of the Indo American Chamber of Commerce. He is currently a council member for India House Inc.

Those felicitated include - Dr. Aziz Jamaluddin , President and CEO of Epcorn Industrial System; Mr. N. Damodar Reddy, Founder Chairman and CEO, SutiSoft Inc., Mr. Sena Reddy CEO, Solid State Media Business; Dr Pagidipati Devaiah, Pediatric Anaesthesiologist, Memphis; Prof M. Ramulu, University of Washington at Seattle. Dr Kailas Rao President and Chairman, Indus Inc., Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Dr Pailla Malla Reddy CEO and Chairman of Group of Pharmaceutical Companies; Dr Lakki Reddy Hanmi Reddy a cardiologist and a Board of Trustee, University of California; Professor J.N. Reddy, distinguished Professor and Oscar S Wyatt Endowed Chair at Texas A & M University.
