Career in Urdu journalism

If you have a good command in spoken and written Urdu, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) School of Mass Communication & Journalism is ready to help you realise your dream.

The university has drawn up an ambitious plan to churn out well-trained professionals equipped with the necessary skills to face the global challenges in electronic and print media.

A full time two year MA-MCJ course aims at providing high quality education and training for aspiring journalists. The programme commenced in 2004 exposes students to multifaceted study of various media.

The four semester programme is so designed as to provide a perfect blend of both electronic and print media. What makes the MANUU programme unique is its exceptional academic and technical orientations which are not to be found elsewhere – at least in any Urdu institution.

Latest equipment

The department situated in the newly built Instructional Media Centre boasts of latest gadgetry - audio–video studios, associated control rooms, comprehensive post-production facility by way of audio edit suites, non linear editing, computer graphics and animation to name a few.

What’s more all classrooms are properly air-conditioned.

According to the university spokesperson, the video studio has a multi camera online setup equipped with high-end broadcast grade cameras (Sony make D-55 PH), and teleprompter with adjoining PCR, a 32 channel audio mixer and associated production gear.

Lighting in the studio is provided by a flexible motorized lighting grid containing cool lights.

HDTV compatible cameras (HVR-ZIP and PD170 of Sony) are provided for and used in outdoor shooting programmes. The audio studio with its associated control room is equipped for digital audio recording on audio workstation.

Internship

Rigorous indoor and outdoor shooting assignments are lined up to train students.

There are also practical exercises in scriptwriting, anchoring, direction, editing and production etc.

As part of the curriculum, students are send for internship in various media organization for 4 to 6 weeks in order to make them familiar with professional aspects of different jobs and responsibilities in media.

Aspirants interested in joining the PG programme can apply nationally.

The University provides on campus residential accommodation facilities to the outstation students at nominal rates with all basic and advanced benefits. Separate hostels are also available for girl students on the campus.

Last date

Graduates in any discipline from any UGC recognized University with minimum 45% marks in aggregate or its equivalent can apply. The essential qualification remains the ability to read and write Urdu.

Last date for submission of forms is June 10. The course fee for all four semesters is Rs. 10,950.
