An opportunity to learn science, and that too a “course of excellence” is at hand. Lycee Francais, a French school in Puducherry, will open a new section of excellence in science to Indian and International students in July 2009.

Through this, students will pursue a course of excellence in science at the school and access the best studies in engineering or science in France.

The section will be open to Indian and International students who have secured good results in science and are studying in an English-speaking system in India or in another country. The students will be selected at the end of Class VIII and after completing four years of study at Lycee Francais, they will pass the Baccalaureate (French Plus-Two) in the same number of years as their high school fellows.

“These students will be selected according to criteria related to their scientific and non-linguistic competences. They will learn the French language in an intensive and progressive way in the early years of their studies and will follow a scientifically strengthened curriculum. They will pass the scientific degree Baccalaureate Scientific (one of the groups) with a special European mention in order to value their bilingual abilities,” Project Manager of Lycee Francais, Brigitte Maury, said.

In fact, this scientific curriculum would enable the students to be prepared for any scientific studies of excellence of international level.

Good results

The examination results of this academic year in Diploma - DNB (French Matriculation), BEP (Professional Diploma) and Baccalaureate have been good. In Baccalaureate, there are three groups — Scientific (S), Economics and Social Sciences (ES), Accounting and Finance (STG-CFE).

Cent per cent candidates received the French Scientific Plus-Two of which 67 per cent of the candidates with honours — 10 per cent with distinction, 57 per cent in First Class.

In Economics and Social Science, 100 per cent candidates received the French Economic Plus-Two out of which 31 per cent of the candidates got honours. For Accounting and Finance, 90 per cent candidates received it with 50 per cent in honours — 16 per cent ‘French’ distinction and 34 per cent ‘French’ First Class.

At the school, 84 per cent of students are French, 14 per cent Indian and two per cent other nationalities. Students from Germany, Burkina Faso, Canada, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Tunisia study at Lycee Francais. While a large proportion of students continue their studies in France, some choose to pursue in India at engineering colleges such as Anna University, St. Joseph’s college and SRM College in Chennai and also at Puducherry and Karaikal or at medical colleges or business and management colleges including at Loyola College in Chennai. Some also join universities in Bangalore and other countries such as USA, Canada or Europe.
