Diploma in retailing from IGNOU
The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is offering a one-year course in Diploma in Retailing from July in collaboration with the Retailers’ Association of India (RAI), Mumbai. The course fee is Rs.6,500. This programme is offered through the university’s regional centres across the country, including in Madurai.
According to K. Panneerselvam, Regional Director, IGNOU Madurai Regional Centre, says students will have a six-month internship programme as practical training in reputed retail stores. Stipend will be offered for the participants. The companies identified include Pantaloon, Shoppers’ Stop, Reliance Retail, Reliance Communications, Arvind Brands, Subhiksha, Zodiac, ITC, Tata Trent, The Mobile Store, Provogue and Max Hypermarkets. Students are admitted to this course under two streams. It has direct entry for those who have completed Plus-Two on the basis of merit/personal interview. Besides, there is a sponsored entry for those students (who have completed Plus-Two) by the retail industry. The sponsorship application must be sent by the organisation concerned. Mr. Panneerselvam said classes would be conducted through reputed institutions at various places in the State. Application cost is Rs. 250 in person and Rs. 350 if got by post. The last date for sending filled-in application forms is May 31.
