Tiruchi law college starts Moot Club
Recognising the need for law students to gain practical exposure to the traditions of the Bar, and dos and don’ts, the Government Law College, Tiruchi, has started a Moot Club. Students get little chance of getting trained in the profession before practising it. Through the activities of the club, students are given a sound footing in the profession, said K. Nilamudeen, Professor in-charge of the club, calling upon other law colleges in Tamil Nadu also to follow suit. Students have to learn by themselves what is required of them and on how they should conduct themselves. By virtue of the club that fosters the art of advocacy and argument the students are trained to argue their cases clearly through a clear understanding of the opponent’s position utilising the available documents. The club also helps students, particularly those hailing from rural areas, in improving their communication skills, considered a capital for the profession, said Prof. Nilamudeen, taking pride in the college team winning the State-level Moot Court Competition held at Coimbatore for the third time successively.
Last month, the members of the Moot Club had the rare opportunity to interact with the Chief Justice of India, Justice K.G. Balakrishnan. They also witnessed the proceedings of the Supreme Court.
