HONOUR: V. Jothi, Director of Jeevan Institute of Micro Electronics, with students who won the project contest organised by Electronics and Communication Engineering Association.
The valedictory of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering and Information Technology and Electrical and Electronics Engineering associations of Velammal College of Engineering and Technology was organised recently.
In the function of Electronics and Communication Engineering a students’ Project Contest ‘IDEAS’ was conducted. As many as 18 projects were displayed by the students. The winners of the contest were awarded with VCET-JEEVAN Trophy by V. Jothi, Director of Jeevan Institute of Micro Electronics.
The chief guest V.R Jeevan Babu, proprietor of Jeevan Electronics, in his valedictory address underlined the importance of industry- institution interaction.
In the Computer Science and Engineering and Information Technology department function, the Principal, S.M.Kannan, in his presidential address, congratulated all the winners.
In the valedictory of Association of Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, the annual report of the association that had the mention about seminars on ‘Programmable Logic Controller’, ‘Digital Electronics makes the World’, and ‘English in the Global Scenario.’
Fatima College organised a two-day faculty development workshop on ‘Modern Methods in Management Teaching’ for the benefit of teachers. The workshop was organised to develop the management education teachers in a professional manner.
P.Suriarajan, Director, Department of Management Studies, Fatima College, who was the resource person, insisted that management teaching has to be different and oriented towards the professional development of students.
The participants were given a practical orientation in the teaching methods of management such as participative methods, case study method, integrated teaching, seminar presentation, presentation of live projects, online teaching, experiential learning, classroom management techniques, competition, behaviour modification, counselling, coaching and mentoring. Moreover the participants were subjected to psychometric tests to ascertain their own individual personality type.
A two-day UGC-sponsored national-level seminar on ‘Quality Enhancement in Teacher Education and Prospects of IQAC’ was organised by St. Justin’s College of Education recently. Sheila Saravanabhavan, professor, School of Education, Virginia University, US, inaugurated the seminar. She said that the teachers should engage themselves in research and continuous learning process. K. Krishnan, Chairperson, School of Education, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, insisted on the personal treatment of teachers, which is an important factor for academic excellence. The college also celebrated its 40th Annual Day recently. The Joint Directorate of Collegiate Education, Madurai Region, Swaminathan, presided over the function. In his address, he said that teachers should act more responsible as they influence the life of the students. Apart from presenting the annual report various cultural programmes were performed by the students.
