Degree exam results delayed
G. NARASIMHA RAO
It is summer vacation in Andhra University but the delay in announcement of results of degree examinations continues to haunt the administration. Last year, it announced the results in a record time of 14 days and this year nearly one-and-a-half months have passed since the examinations are over but the results are not announced, thanks to a private agency not able to compile the results because it has taken up the job of four universities and also faced some problems regarding the AU answer scripts which it did not notice when it entered into a contract.
Vice-Chancellor in-charge B. Satyanarayana is trying to get the results published without further delay but the efforts are yet to fructify. AUCET will be held from next week and AU students are worried that they may not be able to get admission in other universities without the results being announced.
AU is also facing problems with results of post-graduate examinations as there is likely to be a delay here also. The details of internal examinations from some departments are yet to reach the Examination Section as HoDs and the staff concerned are out of the town due to summer vacation or some other reasons.

Race for VC post
There is no indication when the State Government will appoint a full-time VC for AU but all the hopefuls are camping in Hyderabad and are trying all avenues to get the top post. Those from BC categories are making more efforts as there is an indication from the Government that the VC post will be given to one from BCs.
The Andhra University Backward Classes Association has appealed to the State Government to appoint a BC professor as VC, while thanking the Government for appointing a BC as Vice-Chancellor in-charge. Only one BC professor held the post during the university’s more than eight decades old existence, the association said. Meanwhile, the local unit of Tribal Students Federation appealed to the Chief Minister to allot the post to a ST professor as no one from ST community held the post so far.
