What kind of entrepreneurial aspects are available in biotechnology after pursuing MBA biotechnology?

The ability to spot a business opportunity in the area of your expertise will make you an entrepreneur. Many of us obtain highly acclaimed degrees and go on to work for corporations and business enterprises, never giving a thought to our own abilities. What if I use my own expertise and venture in to business? This has never been the question on the minds of these corporate achievers.
Many of the start ups that you see today, not just in Silicon Valley, but in our own Bengaluru, Noida and Hyderabad, you will be pleasantly surprised that people behind them have a just a few years experience in their chosen fields. Many of them have given up their lucrative careers and have decided to stake their earnings and future for an idea they believe will change the face of technology or set in a new process or be able to patent a new product. It’s the penchant to make a mark that has got them going on their own. Success in such ventures always leads to profit in the form of money coming in. Though that may not have been the first point to kick up a start up.
Microsoft, Google are old stories and Facebook, YouTube are the now generation stunners. If you think that is just software, think how they have revolutionised social interaction on the Internet. We had Yahoo and other chat clients even before them.
Look at our own Biocon whose founder Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw has been called ‘India’s Biotech Queen’ by The Economist, Dr. Reddy’s, Bharat Biotech, Shanta Biotech, all of them have done pioneering work. They have explored unforeseen avenues by others.So to be an entrepreneur, you need to look carefully at all the smallest of business opportunities. Though you may not be a scientist yourself, you can always team up with someone who is into research and help them see the business angle. It is also worthwhile to read books on what is happening in the world of biotechnology as it encompasses very many areas of specialisation right from stem cell research to manufacture of bio-diesel. One suggestion that I have is ‘The Business of Biotechnology: From the Bench to the Street’ by R. Dana Ono. That will give you an insight into the business aspects of biotechnology.

The scope of pharmacy as a subject has widened in the past decade. Pharma research has grown in leaps and bounds and universities, pharma companies and governmental agencies are in a race to find cures for a plethora of diseases. While the scientific community is coming up with more analysis of the DNA, the possibility of pinpointing the factors to many ailments suffered by humans is becoming a reality. The next step would naturally be to find cure to these dreaded diseases.
Pharmacology and pharmacy courses offer some of the best opportunities in research and also careers.
In the United States there are hundreds of colleges that offer diverse courses in pharmacy. You need to first plan what specialisation you would like to choose. The next step would be to opt for the colleges that offer that particular specialisation.
Though you may choose a particular university, getting admission to that university depends on other factors such as your score in the qualify tests like TOFEL and others that may be prescribed by the university. Also many US universities now require that you have to write an essay on why you are choosing a particular course.Your admission will be dependent on all these factors. Also you need to consider costs -- both tuition as well as hostel. Expenses vary from State to State and also differ in the same State for different universities. You need to plan at least a year ahead if you are serious about doing your course from the US.
