M.Sc Biotechnology is in demand among science students. Many colleges in Bangalore have now begun offering this course. You should prefer colleges which have quality infrastructure, good faculty and facility for placements. Many colleges have a tie-up with the industry, which is bound to help the field of Biotechnology.
The M.Sc programme in Biotechnology is not approved by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). However, the B.E. programmes in Biotechnology has been approved. The eligibility for the B.E. programme is Plus Two.
Law colleges
I am interested in pursuing Law education and want to enrol in one of the best law colleges in India. I have seen that many law colleges have created havoc in the education system, hence I want to know about the good institutions.

The fast-emerging discipline of nanotechnology is all set to revolutionise the realm of science by using natural materials and processes to enhance the longevity and quality of human life and has fast emerged as a discipline in its own right. Thanks to this highly sophisticated and specialised science, replacement of the worn-out or damaged human body parts will become much easier. The scientists who have been working in this area claim that eventually, it will be possible to even put off death by replacing the weak organs.
The emerging field of nanoscience and nanotechnology is leading to a technological revolution in the new millennium. The application of nanotechnology has enormous potential to greatly influence the world in which we live. From consumer goods, electronics, computers, information and biotechnology to aerospace, defence, energy, environment and medicine, all sectors of the economy are to be profoundly impacted by nanotechnology.
In the U.S., universities that offer either graduate or undergraduate courses in nanoscience or nanotechnology are Clemson University, Cornell University, Penn State University, Rice University, University of Notre Dame and University of Washington. A handful of universities offer undergraduate engineering degrees in conjunction with undergraduate courses in nanoscience or nanotechnology. They are Virginia Commonwealth University, Penn State University and Flinders University.
The fundamental objective of nanotechnology is to model, simulate, design and manufacture nanostructures and nanodevices with extraordinary properties and assemble them economically into a working system with revolutionary functional abilities. Nanotechnology offers groundbreaking material development by controlling and manipulating the fundamental building blocks of matter at nanoscale, that is, at the atomic/molecular level.
Mahbub Uddin, professor and chair of Engineering Science at Trinity University, San Antonio, Texas, points out that nanotechnology and nanoscience should:
Provide understanding, characterisation and measurements of nanostructure properties
Provide ability for synthesis, processing and manufacturing of nanocomponents and nanosystems
Provide ability for design, analysis and simulation of nanostructures and nanodevices
Prepare students to conduct research and development of economically feasible and innovative applications of nanodevices in all spheres of our daily life.
Amity Institute of Nanotechnology (AINT) ( www.amity.edu/aint/), under the aegis of Ritnand Balved Education Foundation (RBEF), started the Post-Graduation Course in Nanotechnology in 2003. Being the first course of its kind in the country, it is a challenge for the institute to run the programme.
The programme comprises conceptual knowledge of nanoscience and nanotechnology, including preparation of nanomaterials, their characterisation and applications. Amity Institute of Nanotechnology has close linkages with national scientific institutions and regularly interacts with the scientists from these organisations through visits and guest lectures. Hands-on training in national laboratories helps the learners apply the specific instruments learnt in the theory sessions in the practical world.
NIPM courses
I have been working for the past seven years as a HR Executive. I am only a graduate. I want to improve on my qualifications by pursing correspondence courses that would help me to retain my job. Please guide me on the courses that are available through NIPM.

The National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM) ( www.nipm-india.org) is an institute of professionals engaged in personnel management, industrial relations, labour welfare and human resources development. NIPM is a professional, non-profit-making society registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1960. It has about 12,000 members besides a number of Institutional Members. There are a total of 52 chapters. NIPM was established in the year 1980, with its headquarters in Kolkata, to:
1) spread the message of professional management in human resource management and development.
2) promote an awareness of professional personnel management at all levels in different organisations.
3) organise activities and programmes at both the national and chapter level with a view to upgrade the skills and professional standards of its members.
The NIPM conducts as a distance learning programme the Post- Graduate Diploma in Personnel Management (PGDPM). It is a six-semester, three-year programme with a validity of five years. To qualify for it, you will have to clear the Management Aptitude Test (MAT) conducted by the All India Management Association (AIMA), New Delhi.
On clearing the MAT, you will have to register for the programme with NIPM and submit the following:
Degree/PG/professional degree certificate(s) (photo copies)
10th Standard certificate as age proof (photo copy).
For further details, you can contact the Chairman, NIPM, Karnataka Chapter, No. C-209, II Floor, Blue Cross Chambers, 11, Infantry Road Cross, Bangalore-1. Email: nipmkc@bgl.vsnl.net.in
