SOUGHT AFTER: Trendy sneakers are a favourite among youngsters.

The well-built youngster is running… with Ipod in his ears, he is oblivious to the world. He is almost floating through the air. Silent and swift, he runs and the camera zooms onto his sneakers which has transported him to another world.

Welcome to the world of sneakers. Comfortable and trendy, sneakers are the in-thing now. Once considered very male footwear, it’s now entered the cupboards of even the girls who can carry off high heels and trendy sneakers with similar élan. From Nike to Adidas to Converse to Reebok, branded sneakers are high in demand and often reflect one’s upward movement on the lifestyle ladder. A favourite among the youngsters, there are different kinds of sneakers in the market, each one with a specific purpose.

The most common ones are the casual sneakers. Over the past few years, they have become an important aspect of a person’s attire -- whether men or women. Usually made of canvas or suede leather, they give enough breathing space for the feet. The sole is usually soft and well cushioned and contains nubs for circulation apart from the ability to absorb shock. They are a favourite among joggers and those who love to trek.

For dancing feet

And then there are the dance sneakers. A hot favourite among the passionate dancers, they are made of lightweight material such as sleek leather. They not only provide shock absorption to the dancer in you, but will also help you make those cool circles and effortless moves on the dance floor. So make sure you pick a cool pair of dance sneakers.

And for the players and athletes, athletic sneakers add to the zing to your abilities. These sneakers are similar to the casual sneakers but are often made in low cut design to assist movement and an external heel cup is added for grip and speed on uneven grounds.

Check out first

For those who intend to go out there and buy sneakers, here are some tips. First is obviously how much you are willing to spend, the material and the purpose. Also remember that materials stretch differently. So make sure you ask the store executive all the right questions before making a purchase. Though keeping in touch with the latest fashion is a good thing, but what’s more important is being comfortable in them. The shoes have to fit you well and there should be enough breathing space for your shoes, unless you want to end up with stinking feet!
