Research in nanogeoscience
The Department of Marine Science, Bharathidasan University, will commence its research in the field of nanogeoscience with a brainstorming session on August 20 and 21.
With U.S. and European countries progressing rapidly in this field, India has evinced interest in developing nano science and technology through setting up the Nanomission under the ambit of Department of Science and Technology with an allocation of about Rs. 1,000 crore. The mission includes developing human resource through establishing postgraduate courses in nanoscience and technology all over the country.
Against this backdrop, the national-level brainstorming will be conducted with sponsorship from the university, Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology, Department of Science and Technology, Council of Scientific and Industrial research, and Ministry of Earth Sciences, said Dr. Radhakrishnan.
The advisory panel consists of vice-chancellor M. Ponnavaikko, DST secretary T. Ramasamy, the secretary of Ministry of Earth Sciences, Shailesh Nayak, and scientist H.K. Gupta of National Geophysical Research Institute.
