Students and two faculty from
SSM College of Engineering,
Komarapalayam, will embark on a
cultural exchange programme to
Bhutan, says a release from the institution.
During their trip to the Himalayan
country, they will learn
about the Bhutanese culture, economy
and various other aspects. As
part of the programme, the Colleges
students will interact with students
from the country.
The release adds that about 50
students from the College had visited
Bhutan under the cultural exchange
programme.
Computer Applications Department
of the Bannari Amman Institute
of Technology,
Sathyamangalam, recently opened
BIT-Cognizant Academic Project
Centre. Vishnu Potty, vice president
and Head of Operations, Cognizant
Technology Solutions, Coimbatore
inaugurated the Centre. Director of
the college S.K. Sundararaman
spoke on the importance of such industry-
institute partnerships. He
urged the students to make use of
the facility, says a release.

University Grants Commission
has granted Rs. 2.5 lakh for
starting a foundation course in human
rights education in Gobi Arts
and Science College, says a release. It
says that the College will use the
fund for the conduct of the course
and create awareness about human
rights. The UGC has also sanctioned
Rs. 1 lakh to study the empowerment
of women through self-help groups,
the release says.
The college has also secured another
Rs. 1.2 lakh to conduct a seminar
on e-governance, the release
adds.
Nandha Polytechnic College,
Erode, recently hosted a campus
placement drive for students.
A release from the College says HR
representatives from Wipro Technologies
conducted written tests and
interviews. Narendra of the software
company asked students to make
best use of the opportunity and said
that the students selected had an opportunity
to study at BITS-Pilani.
Students from as many as 10 polytechnic
colleges participated in the
recruitment drive, the release adds.
Students of SSM Institute of Textile
Technology and Polytechnic
College, Komarapalayam, have secured
cent per cent result in the recently
conducted semester
examinations, says a release.
All the students in the six aided
disciplines have cleared the exams,
the release says and adds that textile
processing student M.M. Karthik secured
the first rank with 598 out of
600.
In recognition the students
achievements, College Correspondent
P. Elango appreciated the faculty
and students.The release says that
the management also distributed
certificates to first three rank holders
in each discipline.
Velalar College of Engineering
and Technology, Erode, recently
hosted a faculty development programme,
conducted by Anna
University, Coimbatore in association
with Wipro Technologies.
A release from the College says 32
engineering college faculty from
neighbouring institutions participated
in the programme, aimed at enhancing
the employability of fresh
graduates by bringing about systemic
changes in teaching-learning.
Members from the host institution
and the software company
participated.
SSM College of Engineering,
Komarapalayam, recently conducted
an AICTE-sponsored staff
development programme. A release
from the institution says experts
from various institutions handled
sessions from June 8 20 on embedded
systems. The programme focused
on developing embedded
systems and programming them.

The AVS College of Arts and Science,
Salem, conducted a handicrafts
exhibition recently.
The Mahalir Mandram of the college
organised the event. A team of
artists led by Babitha Begum conducted
the exhibition. A variety of
handicrafts including paintings were
kept on display for the students and
teachers of the college. The college
also celebrated the birth day of lyricist
Kannadasan. An elocution competition
was held as a part of the
celebration.
The Department of Mechanical
Engineering, Paavai Engineering
College organised a lecture on
Recent Trends in Automotive
Engineering.
Professor from KSR College of
Technology P. Somasundaram was
the resource person. He spoke on the
latest advancements in the automotive
engineering. Topics such as antilock
breaking system and electronics
stability control system were also
covered. College Correspondent
Mangai Natarajan presided. College
Principal C. Jegadheesan spoke.
A staff development programme,
sponsored by the All India
Council for Technical Education was
inaugurated at the Kavery Engineering
College in Mecheri in Salem. Two
seminars were organised as a part of
the programme. The Department of
Mechanical Engineering conducted
a seminar on Advances and Emerging
Techniques in Fluid Dynamics
and Heat Transfer, while the Department
Electronics and Communication
Engineering organised seminar
on CMOS-Emerging Technologies

of India, Coimbatore
Chapter, organised a one-day seminar
on Limited Liability Partnership
(LLP) and Independent Directors.
The programme was inaugurated by
Gopalakrishna Hegde, Chairman
SIRC, Chennai. Topics like Back
Ground and Legal Framework of
LLP, Registration and Administration
of LLP - Practical Aspects and
Role of Company Secretaries, taxation
issues on LLP, etc., were dealt
with in detail.

Vidyapeetham organised a workshop
on WordNet creation for Creation
for Indian Languages. Pushpak

workshop. Linguists and resource
persons from all over the country
attended the deliberations. Representatives
from 11 language groups

The first annual day of PPG Institute

topics. The training and certification
course enabled the participants to
appear for CLAD (Certified LabView
Associate Developer) examination
conducted by National Instruments
(NI), the U.S.
Modem facilities for the office of
the Controller of Examinations
of Kumaraguru College of
Technology were inaugurated recently.
N. Mahalingam, Chairman,
Sakthi Group, inaugurated the office
containing Rs. 30 lakh worth equipment.
The facility was equipped with
34 pairs of mobile compactor, highspeed
photocopier cum fax machine
with central stapling, multiple copier
machines and high-end computational
facilities with examination
management system software to cater
to the online examination related
activities.
The Management Association of
Sri Ramakrishna Institute of
Technology organised a workshop
on Intellectual Property Rights. G.
Nagarani, Senior Officer, Intellectual
Property Rights Cell, Pricol
Limited, spoke on the procedural intricacies
involved in obtaining patents.
She also dealt with patent
maintenance and infringement of
patents. There was also a panel discussion
on current IPR perspectives
and future trends. Students from affiliated
colleges of Anna University
participated in the workshop.
The School of Computer Science
and Technology, Karunya University,
in association with IEEE
Madras, organised a two-day IEEE
faculty development program on
"Challenges in Information Security".
Experts from National Informatics
Centre, BHEL, Symantec,
and Kaspersky Labs delivered lectures
on the topic. The programme
was specially designed for engineering
faculty, researchers and for personnel
from industrial
organisations. It focussed on some
key areas of security issues like database
security, network security, real
time system security and ethical
hacking and countermeasures.
The annual day celebrations of
Sri Shakthi Institute of Engineering
and Technology were held
recently in the institute premises.
A.K. Pattabiraman, Head, Accreditation
Committee for South India, was
the chief guest for the day. He urged
the students to go forward in life
based on their skill sets and efforts
and not by recommendations. Chairman
of the institution S. Thangavelu
impressed upon the students the
need to be well versed in fundamentals
and follow ethics.
