R. Panchanathan, Founder, Talent Academy, addressing students Ignite ’09.

The Rotaract Clubs of Jamal Mohamed College and Jamal Mohamed College for Women in Tiruchi and Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Arts and Science for Women, Perambalur, recently conducted Ignite'09 (Rotaract Zonal Confernce for Tiruchi, Perambalur and Ariyalur districts) at Jamal Mohamed College in Tiruchi.

A large number of college students attended the conference.

Jai Parthiban, District Rotaract Committee Chairman, inaugurated the conference. R.Panchanathan, founder Talent Academy, Tiruchi, M.Sheik Mohamed, principal of Jamal Mohamed College, and K.Murugesan, District Rotaract Representative, addressed the students.

S. Balachandran, Passport Officer, delivered a special lecture on the topic `tourism and travel formalities' under the auspices of the History Association of St. Joseph's College recently. Explaining various formalities for getting the passport, he said the procedures have, of late, been simplified.

Rev. Fr. Susai, Rector of the College, presided over the meeting. Rev. G. Joseph Antony Samy, Head of the Departmentof History, offered felicitations.

The Department of Commerce of the college organised a guest lecture on `EResources for Research Scholars'. R. Balasubramani of the Department of Library and Information Science, Bharathidasan University, was the resource person.

He called upon the students to be creative and innovative in research studies by making use of the advanced information technology. Francis Gnanasekaran, Head of the Department of Commerce, and Antony Jesurajan, president of the Commerce Association, also spoke.

The activities of the English Literary Association of Aiman College of Arts and Science for Women were inaugurated by A. Mohamed Ibraheem, Reader and Head of the Department of English, Jamal Mohamed College. Speaking on the occasion, he highlighted the need for developing communication skills.

Students should cultivate the habit of reading English dailies and listen to English news bulletins. Prof. Ibraheem said command over the English language will to the overall development of individuals.

Students Exnora of National College was recently inaugurated. Also, office- bearers for 2009-10 were installed. Principal K. Anbarasu who presided over the function, stressed the importance of gaining knowledge about environment and contribution of students in achieving a clean and green environment. P. Mohan, State president of Students Exnora of Tamil Nadu, installed the office-bearers. LIC development officer J. Prakash spoke on leadership skills.

The Department of Zoology of the college recently conducted a special meeting for the benefit of the students. Nirmala Natarajan, Associate Professor of EVR College, Tiruchi, spoke on the importance of time management. Selvam, coordinator and dean of Molecular Biosciences, Bishop Heber College, spoke on career opportunities for zoology students. Ealier, the department celebrated International Vulture Day at the meeting in which the students were given a comprehensive introduction about the present status of vultures and its population in India and abroad. C. Ashok Kumar, Associate Professor of the Zoology department, spoke.

The Department of ECE of M. A. M. College of Engineering, Siruganur, recently inaugurated `IETE Students Forum'. K. Gangadharan, chairman of Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), Coimbatore, and C. Arunkumar, Coordinator of State-level IETE Students' Forum, were the chief guests. Principal M. Maluk Mohammed and secretary M. A. Mohammed Nizam explained the growth of the institution.

Ravi Shankar, business consultant of Teradata in the United States, recently delivered a special lecture on `opportunities for mechanical engineers abroad' at the college. He spoke on simulation and design experiments, world class quality (6 sigma approach), concept of supply chain management and environmental- friendly technologies.

The PG department of Social Work of Jamal Mohamed College, Tiruchi, recently organised a special lecture on `professional competency for social workers' conducted by Jamal Social Work Association. Principal Sheik Mohamed presided. Jaffar Ali, Corporate Trainer and HR consultant in Centre for Human Renaissance, Chennai, who delivered the special lecture, stressed that social work provided meaning to life and social workers need to develop certain attitude and skills to become professionals.

The Department of Computer Science of Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College recently conducted a workshop on animation. Jestin Tom, Senior Animator of Toons Animation Studio, Kerala, delivered a special lecture demonstration on animation. Sasikumar, Regional Director, Aptech Solutions Limited, Chennai, delivered a lecture on how to improve animation skills.

The EXMA club of the Association of Business Administration in Chidambaram Pillai College for Women in Tiruchi recently conducted a seminar on `character building'. K. Alex, Reader, Department of Commerce, St.Joseph's College, Tiruchi, who inaugurated the seminar, stressed the need for learning through observation and conversing with people. The postgraduate and undergraduate students of Business Administration interacted with Prof. Alex. P.S.Joseph, principal, presided.

Cauvery College for Women recently inaugurated Citizen Consumer Club at the college. Martin, advocate and secretary of Consumer Council, Tiruchi, who inaugurated the club, spoke about consumer rights and how to approach a consumer redressal forum. He also spoke on consumerism and preventing adulteration. K. Rengarajan, secretary of the college, and V.Sujatha, principal, spoke.

Pavendar Bharathidasan College of Engineering and Technology, Mathur, organised a seminar on the need to develop soft skills for the firstyear students of the college. P. Charles, Manager, E-Quadriga Finishing School, was the resource person. He stressed the need for setting goals and working hard to achieve them. He urged the students to develop self-confidence and a positive attitude.
