The CSE Department of Jayaram College of Engineering and Technology in association with the Computer Society of India organised a one-day seminar on ‘Emerging trends in cloud computing.' E.P. Subash, Head, Competency Development Practice, Spring Board, Chennai, was the resource person. He explained the basis of cloud computing. More than one hundred students from various colleges took part in the seminar and 25 papers were presented. M. Subramaniam, Chairman of the college, presided. N. Kannan, Principal, spoke.
The NCC cadets of National College took a pledge on ‘My Earth My Duty' recently. The event was organised by 2 (TN) Armed Sqn NCC. A. Krishnamurthy, Principal of the college, presided. He spoke about the dangers of global warming, deforestation and use of polythene bags. Col.S.K. Singh, Commanding Officer, 2 (TN) Armed Sqn NCC, stressed the need for protecting our earth and the role of NCC cadets in this regard. D. Muthuramakrishnan, NCC officer of National College and Capt. Abdul Ali, NCC officer of Jamal Mohamed College spoke.
The Department of Commerce of Periyar E.V.R. College organised a one-day UGC-sponsored seminar on ‘Commerce into Corporates.' V.K.Boominathan, Head, Department of Commerce of Bishop Heber College, Tiruchi, addressed the students on ‘Corporate career for commerce graduates' in the first session.

M. Muralidharan of final MA Tamil, reviewed the book titled ‘Periyapuranam Koorum Nannerigal' authored by R. Chellamuthu. The event was organised at Bharathi Vasagar Vattam, a student book review club, of the Urumu Dhanalakshmi College. when A. Karunanidhi, Head, Department of Tamil presided. A. Savithiri, Assistant Professor of Tamil, introduced the author. Muruganandham of final MA Tamil and A. Vasuki of first MA Tamil, offered felicitations.
The Shelly Club of K. Ramakrishnan College of Engineering organised a special lecture on ‘Ancient arts and self-leadership' by Regina Dorothy, Associate Professor of English, Holy Cross College, Tiruchi. Ms Dorothy said that the ancient arts as espoused by leading Indian American writer Robin Sharma included morning walks, regular exercise, reading books every day, eating fresh vegetables, drinking enough water, practice of yoga and meditation would ensure a healthy life. She also distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions. D. Srinivasan, Principal, spoke about the importance of English language. Tharian Mathew, Head, Communication Training, presided. The MIET Engineering College recently inaugurated the Association of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Association.
S. Kaliamurthy, Professor and Head, Department of EEE, inaugurated the association. He spoke about the recent advancements in the field of electrical and electronics engineering. D. Mahendrababu, Manager of BHEL, was the chief guest.

The activities of the Entrepreneurship Development Cell of Jamal Mohamed College were inaugurated recently. A. K. Khaja Nazeemudeen Sahib, Assistant Secretary of Jamal Mohamed College and Managing Director of N.M. Tannery, Tiruchi, who inaugurated the activities, advised the students to improve their skills and become entrepreneurs. V. Durai, Project Manager, District Industries Centre, was the chief guest. He advised the students to have a clear vision to become an entrepreneur. M. Sheik Mohamed, Principal, presided. N. Shaik Mohamed, coordinator of Guidance and Counselling Centre and S. The activities of the Zoology Association of the college were inaugurated by Jamal A. Mohamed of ND Anderson Cancer Centre, Houston, United States. He delivered a lecture on ‘Genetics of biofilm.' He explained about the scope and importance of biofilm research in India. A. Amsath, Associate Professor in Zoology, Kadir Mohideen College, Adirampattinam, delivered a special lecture on ‘Survey and clinical aspects of Leptospirosis.' B.M. Gulam Mohideen, Head, Zoology Department spoke.
