An action filled suspense drama


Arun Pandian and Karthik on the sets of "Devan"... a murder mystery from the new director.

FRIENDS CREATION'S ``Devan'' is a film being directed by Arun Pandian. The shooting was in full swing at Valsaravakkam. Karthik as the lawyer was talking to his client at his residence.

Arun Pandian said that ``Devan'' is a murder mystery. ``I have the best artiste and technicians to work with. Karthik as the lawyer has done a wonderful job. The story revolves round the murder of a VIP, on a rainy day. The Police is not able to find any evidence. How the killer is captured and why he killed the VIP is the answered in the climax. It is Vijayakanth in the film who breaks the suspense." Karthik said that Arun Pandian had done his homework. "As far as I am concerned, director Arun Pandian does not appear to be directing his first film. It seems as though he has directed more than half a dozen films. He has answers to all our questions and is also clear about what he wants. I feel happy to work with him."

Arun Pandian is all praise for Karthik who has worked with all seriousness, Vijayakanth who has not only acted in the film but also given all the support and let some members of his staff work in the film, and maestro Ilaiyaraja who has given a new kind of music which will certainly be enjoyable."

In the film the murderer is Arun Pandian and the person who captures him is Vijayakanth, a police officer. The fights between Vijayakanth and Arun Pandian have been picturised in a thrilling way in Punjab. It is Arun Pandian's 100th film as an actor. He may be the first person who is also directing his 100th film. The shooting was held in Chandigrah, Kakinada and Chennai. In Kakinada 3,000 tractors and 50 buses were used for a scene. A thrilling chase was picturised with 200 camels and an action sequence was shot between Sai Kumar and Arun Pandian at the Chennai and Kakinada harbours, for more than a week. Vijayakanth, Karthik, Arun Pandian, Meena, Kousalya, Preethi Arora, Senthil, Jayakumar, Karikalan, Mohan Ram, `Thalai Vasal' Vijai, Vivek, Vinu Chakravarthi, Manivannan and Ajay Rathnam make up the cast. A leading artiste from Malayalam cinema, Sai Kumar, is being introduced as the villain of the film.

The camera is handled by P. Selva Kumar, dialogue is written by Velumani, fights are composed by Super Subbarayan and Vasu Saleem, music is scored by Ilaiyaraja, lyrics are written by Pazhani Bharathi, art is by Remiyan and the joint producer is Col.D.P.Chellaiya. The film is written, produced and directed by Arun Pandian.
