Homage to Uday Shankar

THE SANGIT Natak Akademi, Delhi and the Music Academy, Chennai join hands to present a five-day festival of choreographic works dedicated to the memory of the legendary dancer, Uday Shankar.

The highlight of the Uday Shankar Shatabdi Samaroh, opening on November 16, at the Music Academy Auditorium, Chennai, will be an offering by C. V. Chandrasekhar, Chitra Visweswaran, Lakshmi Viswanathan, Padma Subramaniam, Shanta and V. P. Dhananjayan and Sudharani Raghupathy. The programmes will start at 6.15 p.m. on all days.

The inaugural programme will be "Memories of a divine dancer", comprising Uday Shankar's creations and other compositions presented by Amala Shankar, Mamata Shankar and Tanushree Shankar.

The festival also presents two other notable dance productions by choreographers not directly influenced by Uday Shankar.

The Samaroh will conclude with a festival in Kolkata featuring the work of younger choreographers.
