Good delineation of Panthuvarali
YOUNG V. Sankaranarayanan presented an enjoyable vocal recital for Sravanam at the auditorium of the Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam's Information Centre in T. Nagar.
The vocalist delighted the listeners with a brisk rendition of the opening piece, ``Vatapi'' (Hamsadhvani). "Theratheeyaka" of Thyagaraja in Gowlipanthu was presented in a way that did justice to the raga's distinctive charm. The singer's depiction of the piece, "Nagumomu" of the same composer in Abheri was lively. Sankaranarayanan showed good imagination in his description of Panthuvarali.
The piece, ``Sarasaksha,'' followed in a shiny version at an aptly accelerated pace. The vocalist's elaboration of Hamsanandhi was planned well. He presented a dainty version of the piece, ``Srinivasa Thiruvenkatamudayai.''
The singer was supported well by Neela Jayakumar (violin), V. R. Jayakumar (mridangam) and Ganapathi Subramaniam (ghatam).
Melodic
Supported by the same accompanists, Govindaprakash Ghanapatigal (a Vedic scholar) offered a pleasant vocal recital for Sravanam. The singer drew praise for his melodic execution of the pieces, "Jalajaksha" (varnam), ``Siddhi Vinayakam'' (Mohanakalyani), "Mamavathusri" (Hindolam), ``O, Rangasayee'' (Kambodi) and ``Orajupu'' (Kannadagowlai). The vocalist's delineation of Varali ("Seshachala Nayakam") was tasteful.
