Book on Tyagaraja

THE MUSIC Academy and P. Obul Reddy Charitable Trust celebrated the 155th aradhana of Saint Tyagaraja, at the T.T.Krishnamachari Auditorium, on March 2.

The celebration included a group rendition of the composer's Pancharathna kirthanas by musicians and the release of the book, "Know your Thyagaraja" (Vol. III)" by SVK, brought out by the P. Obul Reddy Charitable Trust, as a compilation of the author's articles on the greatness of Tyagaraja. Following the book release function held in the evening, there was a vocal recital by T.M. Krishna.

Deft sketches

The vocal recital of Seerkazhi R. Jayaraman featured by Sangeetha Rasika Sangam at Sri Hari Hara Temple in Chinmaya Nagar reflected his taste for dignified expression. He delighted the audience with his pleasing presentation of the pieces, "Mahaganapathim" (Nattai) and "Thulasidalamula" (Mayamalavagowlai).

The singer's neraval and swaras in the conclusion of the latter revealed his graceful style. The vocalist's thoughtful description of Sankarabharanam with emphasis on its exquisite details evoked appreciative listening. Accompanying the recital on the violin, Radha Sundaresan drew a deft sketch of Sankarabharanam. Young K. Parthasarathy impressed the audience with his pertinent patterns on the mridangam.
