Of a bygone era

At the book release function of "Take 25... " — a star-studded affair.

AT A glittering function held recently, at the British Council, Mumbai, Screen editor, Bhawana Somaaya, launched her third book ``Take 25 — Star Insights and Attitudes" released by Rekha who has also written the preface of the book. The function was attended by several film personalities like Rahul Khanna, Govind Nihalani, Jyotin Goel, Padmini Kolhapure, Tejaswini, Hrishita Bhatt, Sharman Joshi, Antara Mali and others. An audio visual, gave glimpses of the author's 25-year old journey in showbiz. Take 25 is published by Sambhav Publishers, Ahmedabad.

The book compiles articles, which are significant pointers of a bygone era. The jargon and the mode of communication are indicative of the existing trends of that period. The quotable quotes, even if temporarily forgotten, have a way of bouncing back into print, and always, when the star is at a vulnerable phase.

Sharmila Tagore once said that she'd rather refrain, than regret. ``If I'm going to be accountable for everything I say, I'd prefer not to be embarrassed." Words have a culture of their own, analysed writer-lyricist Javed Akhtar. Rekha confessed that she did not anymore identify with her past impulsive statements. ``I cringe every time I read an old quote and want to deny it, but can't." Attached with a fresh feedback on the old quotes from the starsand an introduction by Lata Mangeshkar, ``Take 25" looks at the stars as human beings and offers rare insights into star attitudes. Priced at Rs.500 and comprising of 600 pages, the book is available at all leading bookstores or can be booked at Sambhav Publishers.
