DD's New Year line-up

DOORDARSHAN KENDRA, Chennai, has an interesting fare lined up for the Tamil New Year. Ramjhi's `Isai Mazhalai' that is making waves on the light music scene, will present `Bala Brahmam', a raga-based programme that will be a unique blend of Carnatic, Hindustani Western and film music. And this is not the only music show on the cards — mridangam, ghatam and tavil will be part of a musical ensemble that will feature the nadaswaram and veena together! Might sound like an exercise in incongruity but it should prove to be an interesting blend of instruments and has been rightly named `Apoorva Sangamam'.

`Meesai Tharum Osai' will be sound effect, Murugesh style! Popular as `Meesai' Murugesh, his tryst with percussion is bound to go down well with rhythm lovers.

If Pattimandrams on television have become synonymous with festive occasions today, it is largely due to the trend set by DD, even in its early days. The theme, this time round, is on the lines of familiarity breeding contempt and vice versa and will have So. Sathyaseelan as the moderator.

Writer Sujatha is to share the platform with his readers in `Sujatha.com', while `Mudhal Anubhavam' will have famous film personalities talking about their first day at work. A humorous game show, again with popular faces, and an on-the-spot prize scheme will be the other attractions. So watch out for Doordarshan this New Year — it promises to be worth it!
