Pleasant listening

Dreams Audio MDC 004 - Carnatic Classical Instrumental - Dream Journey -Kadri Gopalnath - Price Rs. 50.

THE AUDIO album `Dream Journey' is perhaps a launching pad for Manikanth Kadri, son of the popular saxophone vidwan, Kadri Gopalnath. A software engineer, Manikanth is also a multi-faceted artiste being a vocalist, composer, keyboard player and percussionist. In this album, the main artiste is Kadri Gopalnath with support by artistes on the keyboard, flute, violin and veena. There is bass and classical guitar, tabla, dolak as well as vocal music by Kalyani and Manikanth Kadri.

Manikanth is also credited with the competent orchestration. The agenda comprising songs in the light classical genre such as "Alaipayudhe" by Oothukkadu Venkatakavi, "Kuraioundrumillai" by Rajaji, "Ethanaikodi inbam" by Subramania Bharatiar and a few others provides an hour of pleasant listening. In contrast to the rest of the album, the raga interpretation of Kalyana Vasantham somewhat lacks in repose and serenity whipping up instead an ambience of frenetic activity. — S.P.
