Avatara Utsavam

SRI SRINIVASA Perumal temple at Purasawalkam will perform the Prathama Avatara Utsavam for Sri Vedanta Desikan on September 18. It is unique that Sri Vedanta Desikan shares the birth star, Sravanam, with Lord Srinivasa. Incidentally, this year the ``Thiruvonam'' star occurs twice in Purattasi. This rare event takes place once in 12 years. The second star is usually celebrated as ``Sathumurai'' day while the first is being conducted as the ``Prathama Avatara Utsavam.'' The last occasion this event took place was on September 20, 1991. After a lapse of 11 years, the temple is celebrating the occasion on September 18 with Thirumanjanam to the idol of the Lord and that of Sri Vedanta Desikan, a Vidwath Sadas and procession.
