A message of true love

"Soori"... a romantic theme.

ONE FINE morning more than 50 persons were seen on the beach, busily moving some of the heavy cinema equipment from one side to other. A big banner `Valentine's Day' invited all the youngsters to the venue. All this was for Kamakshi Studios "Soori" where the director was concentrating on the script for scenes he wished to shoot for the day.

Shelvan, an institute product, has worked under director Shanker for two of his best films "Indian" and "Jeans". He has also produced and directed two reportages, which have been screened at the International Reportages Festival in France. He wanted his first feature film to be a love story with a difference, and that is "Soori".

For the first time Vignesh and R. Parthiban are acting together in this film. A pattimandram under the stewardship of Solomon Pappiah will be included, with regular speakers, indulging in a heated debate. This will be one of the highlights of the film.

Director Shelvan says that it is a film about love. "But do the lovers know what is true love or whether their love is divine? After the release of my film lovers will say that `Soori' is the definition of love."

The main scenes have been shot in Tiruchi. "I am fond of the Cauvery. So I decided to shoot the climax there. The story also gives enough scope for me to do the scene in a powerful way. The film has love, action and comedy. But the undercurrent is only love. One can find a definition for true and divine love."

Vignesh, R. Parthiban, Uma, Manthra, Senthil, `Vennira Aadai' Moorthy, Chinni Jayanth, Madan Bob, Lakshmi Rattan, Jayamala, and S.K.S.Mani make up the cast. Cinematography — Vijay Milton, choreography — Cool Jayanth, lyrics — Vairamuthu, music — Deva, editing — Suresh Urs, art — Sai Piccaso and stunts — Super Subbarayan.

The film is produced by P.Vijayakumar and the story, screenplay, dialogue and direction are taken care of by Shelvan.

S. R. ASHOK KUMAR
