Evocative Kalyani
AN EVOCATIVE Kalyani alapana highlighted Anuradha's pleasing concert at Hamsadhwani. She revealed a good patanthara. The rendering of Tyagaraja's not often heard "Sandhehamu Ela Ramaswami Napai Neeku" was neat and pleasant.
The neraval as well as swaras at the charanam were well executed. The Ritigowla alapana was moving and the ever-popular "Nannu Vidachi" (Tyagaraja) was sung with fervour.
Dikshitar's "Ramachandra" (Vasantha) was another noteworthy song with correct diction.
Papanasam Sivan's "Nekkurigi" (Abhogi) and Lalgudi's Revati tillana as also Mysore Maharaja's "Sri Chamundeswari" (Kannada) won encore.
The Ritigowla alapana by B. Ananthakrishnan (violin) contained a few caressing phrases. In the Kalyani alapana, he tended to be a little more aggressive. On the whole, he is quite promising. Kallidaikurichi Sivakumar (mridangam) gave adequate support. _ KSR
