"RAAGA... A gathering" is a non-profit organisation formed to promote Hindustani classical music in Chennai. It plans at least a few Hindustani concerts a year. The shuruaad of "Raaga ... " will be with a sitar recital by Arun Bharatram on Saturday (tomorrow) at the Ragasudha hall, Mylapore, at 7 p.m.

Arun Bharatram, better known as an industrialist, is also a renowned sitar player. Having been brought up in a family where music was appreciated and promoted, Arun was inspired to take up the sitar. Famous artists like Baba Alauddin Khan, Pt. Ravi Shankar and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan would stay for months in his house, where music soirees would be held. His mother, who also learnt to play the sitar from Pt. Ravi Shankar, was a great inspiration. Arun started learning sitar at the age of 10, became a disciple of Pt. Ravi Shankar and has been learning from him ever since. He is not new to Chennai. In the 1970s and 1980s he gave several performances in Chennai.
