Mountain films
THE CANADIAN High Commission and International Cine Appreciation Forum, Chennai, are organising a show of award-winning Canadian films on mountain sports on July 18, at the South Indian Film chamber Theatre. The two-hour film show will be inaugurated by Mr. Reid Cooper, Head of Public Affairs, Canadian High Commission, at 6.30 p.m.
The five documentary films are a selection of the best films entered in the Banff Mountain Film Festival held every year at Banff, in Alberta, Canada.
Films range from a seven-minute "The Essence of Adolescence," judged the Best Film on Mountain Sport 2002, to "The Yenisey River Expedition," a 56-minute riveting film that won the Runner-Up-2002 People's Choice Award.
Chennai will be the final stop in this year's five-city tour of India for the World Tour of the Banff Mountain Film Festival. These award-winning films come to Chennai after enthralling audiences in Darjeeling, Delhi, Manali and Bangalore. "Chennai was a natural choice to screen these films," says Cooper. "It is a leading Indian city and many Canadians trace their origin to this historic region," he said.
The Banff Mountain Film Festival (www. banffmountainfestivals.ca) is an international film competition featuring the world's best films and videos on mountain subjects. Filmmakers from around 30 countries enter over 250 films in the annual film festival competition.
An international film festival jury chooses the best films and awards prizes in eight categories.
