Songs of Annamacharya
A SELECTION from the bhakti soaked compositions of the saint poet, Sri Annamacharya, was presented in a lively manner by Urmila Sathyanarayanan under the title ``Bhavayami Bala Gopalam" for the Indian Fine Arts Society at the German Hall on Friday last. The occasion was Annamacharya Day. The function was presided over by P. S. Ramamohan Rao, Governor of Tamil Nadu.
``Itu Garudani," depicting the grandeur of Lord Venkateswara on His divine mount, ``Indariki Abhayambu," portraying the Dasavatara and ``Bhavayami Gopala Balam" in which the poet devotee describes the enchanting beauty of Child Krishna and the ultimate surrender at His feet, were the hymns presented in a crisp manner by the dancer. Swamimalai Suresh (vocal and nattuvangam), Sikhamani (violin), Sai Kumar (flute) and Nellai D. Kannan (mridangam) provided a wellcoordinated orchestral support.
Earlier Jayanthi Mohan rendered a vocal recital of the compositions of Sri Annamacharya and Dr. Jayasitalakshmi presented a lecture-demonstration
