Successor appointed



Passing on a legacy ... Sri Vidya Vachaspathi Tirtha and Sri Vidya Manohara Tirtha.

IN A formal ceremony held on September 4, Vidya Vachaspathi Theertha, the 39th Pontiff of Sosale Vyasraya Math, Chennai, appointed Sri Vidya Manohara Tirtha as his successor. Sri Vidya Vachaspathi Tirtha, popularly known as Jayateerthachar in his poorvashrama, has done Bagavatha Sapthaha 2515 times. He started sapthaha when he was 14 and now he is 85.

Sri Vidya Vachaspathi Tirtha is a multi-linguist who has specialised in the Ramayana, Thiruppavai, Kamba Ramayana, the Gita apart from the Bagavatha. `Walking Library, Vedashastrabhooshana' (from Travancore Maharaja), Upanyasa Chakravarthi, Veda Shastra Nipuna, Upanyasa Ratnakara, Sachastra Ratna and Matha Traya Bhashya Pravachana Chatura etc are a few of the titles conferred on him.

Twenty-year-old Sri Vidya Manohara Teerthaswami, who was studying Mechanical Engineering, was assisting the senior swamiji in puja. His parents are Uddavacharya and Srimathi.
