Awards to musicians

KARTIK FINE Arts has announced the list of awardees for this December season. Priya Sisters Haripriya and Shanmughapriya - Isai Peroli (cash award of Rs. 15,000, citation and medallion); Priya Jayaraman - Nadanamamani (cash award of Rs. 15,000, citation and medallion) will be presented the award on December 1 at Narada Gana Sabha Hall. Bombay Sisters C. Saroja and C. Lalitha - Tamil Isai Vendar (silver tambura, citation and Rs. 15,000 in cash) will be honoured on December 26 at Valliammal College for Women Silver Jubilee Hall.

Nisha Rajagopal has bagged the D. K. Pattammal Award of Excellence and K. S. Venkataraman, secretary, Mylapore Fine Arts has been conferred the Kartik Rajagopal Golden Jubilee Award.

The above awards will also be distributed on December 1. B. Krishnamurthy, retired principal of Government Music College will be presented the Sirkazhi Govindarajan Memorial Award on December 26.

Sri Thyaga Brahma Gana Sabha will begin its 25th music festival from December 9 to 31. This year, the sabha has decided to honour Aruna Sairam, A. K. C. Natarajan, E. M. Subramaniam and Bombay Gnanam with the title, `Vani Kala Sudhakara.'

The Isai Nataka Vizha of Narada Gana Sabha will be held from December 15 to January 1, 2005. Swami Dayananda Saraswathi Swamigal will inaugurate the function and confer the title `Nadhabrahmam' on veteran musician D. K. Pattammal. Thanjavur L. Venkatesa Iyengar will be honoured with the Senior Musician Award.

The Indian Fine Arts Society (Ph: 2815 4360) will be organising its 72nd South Indian Music Conference and Festival from December 17 to January 4, 2005 at Balamandir German Hall, T. Nagar. Harikatha exponent Kalyanapuram R. Aravamudhachariar will preside. He will also be conferred the title, Sangeetha Kalasikhamani on the inaugural day at 5 p.m. Bharatanatyam exponent Lakshmi Viswanathan will be honoured with the title, "Natya kalasikhamani' at the Valedictory function on the concluding day at 5.30 p.m.

At Krishna Gana Sabha Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam will present the titles, `Nritya Choodamani' to Madhavi Mudgal (Odissi exponent) and `Acharya Choodamani' to Indra Rajan (Bharatanatyam guru). The event will be held on December 9, 5.00 p.m. at Dr. Nalli Gana Vihar, T. Nagar.
