MUSIC ACADEMY
Beautifully portrayed
Aishwarya Nityananda
ON THE inaugural day of the Music Academy's annual festival on December 19, Aishwarya Nityananda, a disciple of Dr. Radha Sridhar from Bangalore gave a Bharatanatyam recital. She possesses all the required features for an ideal dancer. Pallavi Doraiswamy Iyer's ``Adenamma" on Lord Nataraja in the raga Pharaz was the first item. She did it in a very beautiful manner, depicting the nine rasas, as also, the sounds that emanated from the Dhamaru of the Lord, which later became Mahesvara Sutras.
Aishwarya chose a garland of Namas from Krishna Ashtottara, for presenting it as a Varna. It was not a bad idea, as the chant when made into a composition, did not appear to be namavali. One cannot expect Dviteeyakshara prasa in them and it is unnecessary to say that a composition without Prasa is (Prasaviheenakam Prana viheenam) lifeless. But this svelte dancer scored high compliments for her wonderful portrayal. In this case also, the Jatis were unnecessarily lengthy. It is better for the choreographers and the dancers to understand how the Jati pattern should be. To make the Jatis showy, different gatis are appended to them, and in such cases, they should not call themselves `traditional.'
Among the accompanists only the vocalist was up to the mark.
