Craft and couture

EVOLUZIONE (KHADER Nawaz Khan Road, off Nungambakkam High Road) offers a dazzling choice of couture. From Rohit Bal's jewel-coloured salwar kurtas, to Abraham and Thakore's elegant crushed block printed kurtas it is a journey of brilliance. Elegantblock prints combine with subtle embroidery while multi-dyed kurtis sport matrimonial ads!

Rajesh Pratap Singh offers all-over appliquéd magic on white-on-white salwar kurta sets. Malini Ramani's simple and elegant Jaipur mull kurtas and tops entice with their minimal look.

Amethyst's (Sunder Mahal, Rani Padmavathi Road, Gopalapuram) summer collection has on show craft magic of a different kind. Radhika and Rohini Puri's layered chiffon tops in ethereal summer colours create a cool ambience, while Ashish Pandey's chiffon poncho tops celebrate tie and dye and shibori motifs. Madhu Jain's "Haveli" line salwar kurta ensembles have exquisite Kalamkari motifs on sleeve and neck, making the tussar kurtas perfect for festive wear. Sunita Shankar's enticing collection includes white-on-white tops and kurtas.

Kolkata's designer duo Sayon Mitra and Krishna Raja make their debut in Chennai with a presentation of Indo-Western, Indian and Western outfits at "Asharaa" (37, Bheemanna Garden Road, Abhiramapuram, Chennai) Mitra's georgette and cotton tops, trousers and salwar kurta sets delight with their minimal kantha and ari embroidery. Krishna creates what she calls "real clothes" which translate into silk and cotton salwar kurta sets and a pleated, stitched and pressed sari which one can just slip on!
