In his guru's footsteps

Veteran sitar maestro Pandit Arvind Parikh was at his best at Omkar Jhankar at the JSS Auditorium, accompanied by Asutosh Dighariya on tabla.

In Vilayat Khani style, he played raga Jog. Endowed with great musical imagination, the sitarist explored the raga from every angle.

The alap, jod and gats channelised the incessant flow of the raga. He embellished it in vilambit trital, jhap tal and roopak tal gats. His mastery came to the fore in the drut teental gat. The expertise in laya was remarkable.

M. SURYA PRASAD
