A story well told

The story of Punyakoti was presented by Uma Rao and her disciples at Regional Institute Of English, Mysore, with all its allegorical overtones. The entire story was adapted to Bharathanatya, with Sudhamani effectively rendering the poignant lyrics, "Dharanimandala Madhyadolage". Starting from Brindavana Saranga, the other ragas employed were Bhouli, Charukeshi, Amruthavarshini, Atana, Bageshri, Dhanyasi, Chandrakauns, Shivaranjini, Revati, Abhogi and Hamsadhwani. The choice of tunes blended well with the sahitya. Choreography by Uma Rao showcased the sublime angikaabhinaya with rhythmical svara prayogas in nrutta-nritya-natya. C.S. Lakshmi on vocal, Vidwan Thandavamurthy on violin and Uma Rao on nattuvangam provided impressive support. Kumari Priya, Prathima, Parimala, and Sahana put up notable performances.

However, Chetan Hebbar as the tiger, inspiring and restrained bhavabhinaya by Arathi Arun as Punyakoti, and the innocent looks of Shubha Venkatesh as the calf were hallmarks of the performance.

Music-medico

Musical feature Vachana Vaidya, presented by Vidwan Nandakumar at the Jaganmohan Palace was an innovative concept, but it put the listeners into a great deal of confusion, for, the connection wasn't easily established. Doctors spoke about their profession, but considering that medical consultation and music are two different perspectives, the programme fell short of a proper perspective. Researchers have documented the influence of music on the human physiology and psychology with specific applications. "Aava rogavu enage deva dhanvantri", "Anugalavu chinte dehake", and "Anubhavadadigeya madi" were some of the compositions rendered.
