Sankara Jayanthi

Sankara Gurukulam will celebrate its 58th annual day on May 5 and the 121st birth anniversary of Thethiyur Sastrigal from May 9-13. The Sankara Jayanthi celebrations of the gurukulam will comprise special abishekams and aradhana to Adi Sankara from 7 a.m. Eminent personalities will deliver lectures in the evenings on all days. On May 9, the best student in the Vedanta Siromani class for the year 2004 will be presented a gold medal.

Brahmotsavam

The annual Brahmotsavam is on at the Sri Srinivasa Perumal temple at S. Navalpakkam near Vandavasi. The car festival will be on April 29 and Teerthavari on May 1. Vidwat Sadhas and Thadheearadhana will take place during the festival, which concludes on May 4.

Chithirai Tiruvonam

Sri Madhava Perumal temple, Mylapore (Ph: 2498 5112) will celebrate the Chithirai Tiruvonam festival from April 30-May 10. The festival includes Garuda Sevai (May 3), Tiruther (May 7).

Festival

The second Brahmotsavam of Vadathiruvarangam Sri Ranganayaki Sametha Sri Ranganathan temple, Adambakkam, will be celebrated from May 2-6. Garuda Sevai and Car festival will take place on May 2 and 6 respectively.

Radha Kalyanam

TTD, Neyveli, is celebrating Bhagavatha Mela and Radha Kalyanam at the Devasthana Kalyana Mantapam, Neyveli Township till May 1. Upanyasams will be rendered by Subhadra (April 29) and Visakha Hariji and Hariji (April 30). Radha Kalyanam will take place on May 1.

Service at Tirumala

Free registration is open for service at Tirumala-Tirupati for the year 2005. The devotees will be provided free lunch, dinner and accommodation for a week, and a special darshan of the Lord, for service of a supervisory nature for four hours a day. For details, contact: 044-2448 1029.

Memorial day

As homage to the doyen of Tamil theatre, Y. G. Parthasarathy, Bharat Kalachar will stage a detective-comedy by Y. Gee. Mahendra, `Lights On' presented by UAA at Sri YGP Auditorium, T. Nagar, on April 30 at 6.30 p.m.

Spiritual camp

ISKCON, Chennai, is conducting Hare Krishna summer camp for children aged between 6 and 12 at Ashok Nagar from May 4-19 (10 a.m.- 12 noon).

The course includes the application of Bhagavad Gita slokas to day-to-day life, mantra yoga and games. The course fee is Rs. 250. For details, call 2489 3548/93810 99494.
