Offering pepper for grace

The Arulmigu Sri Milagu Pillaiyar Temple was built about 100 years ago on an extent of 1.5 acres of land donated by the then Nawab of Arcot to the forefathers of D. Kumarasamy Gurukkal, the hereditary trustee of the temple in Melpadi village, Katpadi taluk, Vellore.
The temple, situated two km from Sri Subramaniaswamy Temple in Vallimalai, has been renovated with the help of Paramasivam Sthapathi of Mandurai in Tiruchi district, and the devotees in and around Melpadi.
Wish granted
One of the salient features of the renovation work was that 32 images of Lord Vinayakar have been installed on the gopuram of the temple. It is believed that the wishes of the devotees would be fulfilled if they tie any quantity of pepper in a white cloth dipped in turmeric water on nine `Amavasai' and nine `Sankata Hara Chathurthi' days.
Renovation has been done at a cost of Rs.15 lakhs. With a meagre annual income of Rs. 800, Sri Kumarasami Gurukkal is trying to construct a marriage hall on behalf of the temple.
Kumbabhishekam
The kumbabhishekam of the temple will be performed on June 24 between 12 noon and 1 p.m. Yagasala puja will be performed at 9.30 a.m. and the deity will be taken out in procession in the evening at 6 p.m.
