Cultural feast at Tirupati
The 63rd annual festival of music and dance will be held at Tirupati for a period of 12 days commencing from July 25. The festival will be inaugurated by K.S. Bhakthavatsalam, former Judge of the Madras and Karnataka High Courts. The festival features artistes of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka.
The committee of the T.T. Devasthanams has been supporting the event by providing infrastructure and financial assistance. The festival committee on its part raises funds through sponsorship programmes from industrialists and corporate bodies. The title "Saptagiri Sangeetha Vidwanmani" is conferred every year on outstanding artists. The practice of honouring the artists began in 1972 and so far 42 artists had been recipients of this award. This year's recipient is mandolin maestro U. Srinivas, the youngest to be honoured. The award carries the title, citation, gold medal, a shawl and a cash award of Rs. 5,000, donated by the industrialist P. Obul Reddy.
