Enthralling dance drama

P. SURYA RAO

The antics of the child Krishna were well presented. P. SURYA RAO

Yasoda Krishna, an enthralling dance drama produced by the Nritya Kinnera of Hyderabad and sponsored by the State Department of Culture, A.P. was held at the Kshetrayya Kala Kshetram.

Maddali Usha Gayatri and her large team of well-trained artistes succeeded in winning the hearts of the audience. Almost every scene choreographed by Usha Gayatri who heads Nritya Kinnera was neatly presented with apt music and fine co-ordination.

The drama depicting mainly the childish and mischievous pranks of Krishna reflected excellent team effort and involvement. The scenes where Yasoda views the whole universe in the mouth of Krishna and the gopikas appealing to Yashoda to control the mischievous child were well choreographed. Fine music by singers Pasumarthi Seshubabu and Vempati Srivalli Sarma complimented the sincere effort of the artistes.

The play was well written by Kakuturi Padmavathi and directed by Usha Gayatri who also played the main role of Yashoda creditably.

Other characters were played by Bhavani (Rohini), Pushkari, Sri Kaustubha, Sreya, Harika Reddy, Suseela and Anisha (gopikas).

Lakshmisri and Harshita played the characters of Narada and Garga Maha Muni respectively. Pasumarthi Seshubabu's nattuvangam was efficient. On behalf of the Department of Culture, Ayyagari Syamasunder, principal of the Government Music College, organised the programme.
