Premchand's Stories

At the India International Centre, Abhiyan Theatre Group presented a collage of Prem Chand's writings including "Dudh ka Daam" and "Sadgati" - two representative stories that have never been staged before, along with "Manushya ka Pram Dharam" and "guru Mantra" - two short satirical sketches and "Jivan Saar", two autobiographical sketches.

Manipuri Dance

S. Karuna Devi from Imphal, disciple of Guru Th. Babu Singh and Priti Patel presented a Manipuri Classical dance recital at IIC early this week.

She was accompanied by K. Ratan Singh(pung), W. Suraj Singh (ishei) and Chinmoy Karmakar (flute).

Painting Exhibitions

Intercontinental The Grand hosted an exhibition "Towards Divine" recently.

The participating artists included Sudha Pillai, Niren Sengupta, Akash Choyal, Madhumita Sen, R.K. Bhatnagar, Hamdard, Vinod Bakshi and Gouri.

Ashim Purkayastha's exhibition "Attached Wings" was on view at the Sridharani Gallery. And, while an exhibition of paintings by Tandra Chanda was on view at the Habiart Gallery, Krishna's Collection Art Gallery presented the show "Original Prints", the participating artists being Sunil Darji, K.K. Mohammed, Jeram Patel, Kavita Shah, B.V. Suresh, Jyoti Bhatt, Vijay Bagudi, Devraj Goswami and others.

Music Festival

Gayathri Fine Arts presented music concerts this past week as part of its annual concerts. The participating vocalists featured at the recitals were Anjali Shankar, Shweta Balan, Anuradha and Prema Rangarajan.

The accompanists included R.S. Krishnan, R. Saravanan, V.S.K. Chakrapani (violin), T.S. Shriram, N.K. Sreeram, S.Raghunandan, N. Padmanabhan (mridangam) and N.K. Sreeram on Kanjira.
